A WEEKEND IN… MILOVAIG HOUSE

Our Sales Support Manager, Charlie, enjoyed the ultimate girls’ trip to Scotland, complete with wild hikes, whiskey tasting, and the Northern Lights.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE MILOVAIG HOUSE FOR YOUR SAND & STONE ESCAPE?

The view! The second we took on the property, I knew I had to go. The idea of my morning coffee from the chair by the window watching the horizon sold it for me. I had been planning the road trip there ever since.

WHO DID YOU GO WITH?

I went with friends. The brief was somewhere cosy where we could just relax and catch-up, but with plenty of adventure nearby. We had planned a long weekend in November so it had to be somewhere with a fire too to warm up post-hikes.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT MILOVAIG HOUSE?

It’s hard to choose between the bathtub for the views, the fire pit for discussing the day’s activities, and the living room for game nights while watching the weather roll in. But… if I had to pick, it really is special to sit in the hot tub and watch the stars – especially for someone who lives in London and misses countryside living!

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE TRIP?

We were incredibly lucky and caught the Northern Lights from the house. We were having s’mores over the fire when we noticed lights on the horizon dancing across the sky. It was absolutely incredible to experience it from this little cottage and it truly made our trip!

WHERE DID YOU EXPLORE IN THE LOCAL AREA?

For walks, we of course stopped by The Storr, but for the most breathtaking views I loved exploring Quiraing, which feels otherworldly with views across the snow-capped mountains and lots of different routes for different levels. The Fairy Pools are worth a visit too, and if you’re keen for a quick dip, there are plenty of quieter, hidden spots not too far away from the main ones.

We stopped off at The Oyster Shed for some freshly caught fish to fuel up before heading to the Talisker whiskey distillery for a tasting tour. They give the drivers a take-away tasting kit (which can be sampled by the fire later!), and they have a cosy bar too if you don’t want the full tour.

WHERE’S NEXT ON YOUR SAND & STONE LIST?

We have some really exciting new ones coming on in Scotland soon – watch this space!
