Overview

The kaleidoscopic Keepers Cottage sits hidden in the untamed countryside of North Norfolk. So much more than a rural retreat, its playful interiors and magical, hinterland location are bound to leave you feeling giddy. With vast sandy beaches to explore, bosky marshland walks with no phone signal, and unassuming gastropubs serving East Anglian fare at its finest – a stay at Keepers Cottage is a bona fide escape for the soul.

Ground Floor

This is a hideaway very much dressed for celebrating, so you can expect plenty of entertaining space at Keepers Cottage (giant disco ball included). There’s a spacious sitting room, a separate dining room and a snug TV room with dancing wall murals, each singing with bold, colourful design and decor. Nearly all of the furniture has been sourced by the owner from antique shops and markets, before being upcycled and hand painted.

The kitchen is compact but has everything you need for rustling up bountiful banquets. On this floor you’ll also find a boot room, a utility room with adjoining downstairs loo, and one of the four delightful bedrooms; a double with an ensuite bathroom with a shower.

First Floor

Upstairs, you’ll find the further three bedrooms; another double, a twin room (that can be made into a double on request) and a single room. There are two family size bathrooms, both with baths and one also with a separate shower.

Outside

Keepers Cottage sits within its own two acres of woodland wonderland, filled with wild flowers and cherry trees, overlooking a pond on the Wolterton Park estate. Secluded and with no other houses in sight, it’s the perfect setting for switching off and enjoying time with family and friends.

Dogs

Two well behaved dogs are welcome at Keepers Cottage for an additional fee of £40 per dog. We kindly ask that dogs do not go upstairs, on any of the furniture or in any of the bedrooms.

How to get there

We recommend travelling by car so you can easily explore the surrounding area, however the nearest train station is North Walsham (around a 20 minute drive or so), with regular trains running from London taking under two hours.

Parking

There is plenty of private parking at Keepers Cottage, with space for up to five cars.

Things To Do

– Exploring the seaside town of Cromer and walking along Cromer beach is a must (either before or after some fish and chips at No. 1 Cromer).
– Fossil hunting on West Runton Beach (the owner’s favourite local beach).
Overstrand, Mundesley and Holkham beaches are a little further afield but well worth the trips.
– Enjoy a windswept stroll along Blakeney Point‘s 4 mile-long shingle spit and sand dunes, and go seal spotting at the Blakeney National Nature Reserve.
– Visit one of the four grand power houses of Norfolk, Wolterton Hall, since restored to the highest of standards and located on the same estate as Keepers Cottage.
