Overview
A soulful forest retreat for two hidden away in Scotland’s West Highlands, just a short walk from the wild shores of Oban. The Nest occupies the top floor of an old stone stable within the courtyard of the main house, Home Farm, and together they share a small private forest inhabited by tawny owls, pine martens, deer, and red squirrels. This escape takes its name from the owl roost perched on the roof, where barn owls have nested for decades.
Kitchen, Living & Dining Areas
Natural materials, original art, and thoughtful home comforts fill this immaculately renovated hayloft. Expect open-plan living, with a fully equipped oak kitchen, dining area, and cosy sitting room, where a feature log burner takes centre stage. There’s a projector for evenings spent curled up indoors with a good film, alongside a carefully curated vinyl collection.
The Bedroom & Bathroom
The bedroom sits tucked behind a curtain and centres around a king-size bed with a bespoke tweed headboard. A skylight overhead frames the clear night sky, while a deep freestanding bathtub, enclosed by muslin curtains, offers a wonderfully romantic place to unwind after a day spent exploring the Highlands. Next door, you’ll find a separate shower room.
Outside
Step outside and straight into woodland, where ancient trees, birdsong, and winding forest paths create a magical setting that feels welcomingly removed from everyday life. Whether enjoying a morning stroll with a coffee or simply watching the wildlife pass by, this is an escape designed for slowing down.
The owners live discreetly on site with their own separate entrance and are on hand to help if needed.
Welcome Hamper
A welcome hamper filled with delicious goodies will be waiting for you on arrival.
Children
A travel cot and highchair can be provided for babies or toddlers in tow.
Dogs
One well behaved dog is welcome at The Nest. Please note, dogs are not allowed in the bedroom or on any of the furniture, and should be kept on a lead in the grounds.

The Surroundings
The sort of setting where you could easily believe you were miles from anywhere, yet The Nest is only a 5-minute drive (or a 20-minute walk) from the charming west coast seaside town of Oban. Home to many celebrated seafood restaurants and one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries, Oban Whiskey. From here, ferries depart daily for the Hebridean islands of Mull, Iona, and beyond, making The Nest an ideal base for both quiet retreat and coastal adventure.
